This week in art class : a portrait

I deliberately thickened up her eyebrows, nose and chin a little, to illustrate this quote :

"While still in early youth Fëanor wedded Nerdanel, a maiden of the Noldor; at which many wondered, for she was not among the fairest of her people. But she was strong, and free of mind, and filled with the desire of knowledge.
Morgoth’s Ring, HoME Vol 10, Part 3, Section 2, Of Fëanor and the Unchaining of Melkor "

So she could be more conventionally pretty though I'm not sure about her lips, and as usual the photography has done the painting no favours..  I did this because I thought the hair might be more educational to paint than last week's hairy dog, and I do feel I learned a fair bit from painting it.

... I amended her eye and mouth to give better perspective.  You can see how hard it is to be consistent when taking photos when the light changes!

Really like this - her hair looks great and you can really see how much your faces have improved :) I think the thing with the lips might be that they don't look quite as side-on as her nose, if that makes sense? But really, it's loads better than I could manage, she looks very life-like!

You're right! I was doing the thing where you paint an eye and lips rather than a face, again. Her brow ridge and the left side of her mouth should be lower so that it goes away from the viewer.
