It's a couple of months since I've had daylight time spare for gardening - and it looks it!   There is so *little* daylight at this time of year and one really cannot garden by torchlight.

Today I have taken all the sad mildewy figs off the fig tree (well, most of them were mildewy.  Some of them were grimly hanging on in a rather sad  'ten more minutes and it might be summer!' kind of way though, and those specially needed removing as they confuse the tree in spring into not producing any more figs).  I have also swept up  *most* of the leaves that were on paving and concrete (I don't sweep leaves off grass or beds : the worms can have those), have done a bit of weeding and trimming, and pruned the grape vine (mostly so I can get past to do the sweeping!)

I need to check my Pruning Book and check when I need to prune the vine harder, but at least it's no longer eating that corner of the garden.

I have also cleared up the mess at the top of the garden resulting from dogs popping out first thing, which had got rather out of hand and revolting.  Thank goodness for flushable poobags...

Looking at my new beech hedge along the lane, it seems to have suddenly been swallowed by alarming numbers of brambles.  I didn't have time to deal with that today, but really must get onto it and sort it out!   Once the beech are a bit bigger they should be able to slay the brambles themselves, but they are still a bit small to do their own weeding.
